Description: The femoral artery is among the easiest ways to safely gain access to the heart. By feeling the pulse and identifying surface anatomy, specialists can pass a seldinger needle into the femoral artery. Then a wire is passed through the needle. After removing the needle the catheter is slid along the wire and into the artery. The wire can either be removed or used as a guide for subsequent instruments.
